Last Day of School 2020 Nonet

Signs
Parade
We wear masks
Students wave, cheer
Teachers cry, blow kiss
Strangest last day of school
Covid-19 changed it all
Presents passed through open windows
Uncertainty in the summer air

This poem was inspired by Irene Latham's book Nine: A Book of Nonet Poems. I am sharing a #classroombookaday each day this summer for books that I would like to read with my third graders. You can follow my reading this summer on  my website
or on Instagram @mrssokolowski.

I’ll have to check out this book. I love that you’re doing a summer book a day. What a great idea! Happy summer!

I’ve never heard of a nonet poem. I will have to check out that book!

Enjoy the summer, Kathleen. You deserve some time to relax. You’ve done SO MUCH for your students. I know it was hard, but you were present for them in a myriad of ways.

Thank you for sharing the book. I had never heard of a Nonet.

I bookmarked your website so I can follow the rest of the books you recommend over the summer. I teach 2nd grade, and I love reading aloud to my Scholars.

As for your Nonet, I had similar feelings at the official end of our school year. Uncertainty is real. I hope you take time to enjoy the summer months, and I hope your (and my) school district makes wise choices regarding what next year will look like.

What a bitter sweet nonet poem. An end filled with love and all the strange new goodbyes that at least this year, we can relate to experiencing. I haven't read this book by Irene Latham... I will have to look into it as well. Enjoy your summer, Kathleen!

We have our rolling rally this Friday - and it’s my last day before retiring. Hoping I can make it without shedding too many tears.
You have encouraged me to join the books day summer challenge! Hoping I can commit!
Thanks for the poem too!
